Green Girafee :: Shirt

Green Giraffe on Pink

Green Giraffe on Pink

In the summer of 08, I decided it was time to update my wardrobe. Therefore, I need to make a bunch of new stencils and new shirts. I’m not sure what lead to animal prints, but I love having the siloutte of friendly creatures on my shirts.

The green giraffe instantly became my favorite along with the splittings bears shirt I did at the same time. Not only did I love them, but everyone that saw me with these shirts had questions and comments. People really like animal prints. I can’t explain it. I just know it to be true.It also probably helps that the shirt is pink.

I make stencils by printing a design on cardstock and then cutting it out with an exacto knife. This is the first shirt I made where I had to print onto two pages of cardstock and then line them up in order to get my design. It was important to me to have a large print though. I wanted it to take up a big part of the shirt.

Bearaffe :: Shirt

The Bearaffe
The Bearaffe

This is my favorite shirt right now. I dig it because it is a mash up of my two previous favorites. The Giraffe and Splitting Bears. I wanted to make a stenciled shirt for new years eve, but like most things I put it off until the last minute.

So, on Dec. 31st I was trying to figure out what I could make. I dug through my stencil collection and somehow put the top half of a giraffe stencil on the bottom half of a bear stencil. I like how it can easily look like a sea creature.

I didn’t use acrylic paint on this design due to time limitations. Instead, i set the stencil on the shirt and took a sharpie marker to it. I simply made lines all around the edge. It makes a really nice outline and a hint of a fur effect. I’m going to use that technique more often.

I also tried putting the top of the bear with the bottom of the giraffe and it also makes an amazing mash up. It sort of looks like a bear centaur.  I haven’t put it on clothing yet, but I may in the future.
