Fat and Crunchy

I started a new website to blog and track my progress of becoming healthy and self sufficient, Fat and Crunchy. I’m still not quite sure, but I think I’m going to blog solely on that site. So, I just wanted to let you know.

I’m going to use this website as a portfolio. Slowly (but surely) I will be transitioning it to showcase my various works. So get ready for that! Thanks for following along all these years. I’ll see you at F&C!

Wine Bottle Glass and Almond Milk

I finally got around to doing two projects I have put off for too long.

I wanted to make a wine bottle glass for a long long time. I bought the bottle cutter from Green Power Science and followed Dan Roja’s advice for using boiling water instead of an open flame. It broke apart on the line beautifully. I then sanded the lip down using normal sanding sheets. I can’t wait to make more.

Here is some Almond Milk. I combined Almonds (that had been soaking overnight), Water, and Vanilla… blended… and drained out pulp.

It wasn’t as cold as I thought, but it was as wet. The horse sneered at me, mocking my pain. ”It’s not his fault that he is tone deaf” an onlooker reported. I knew he was right. A twitsted witch doctor had taught the poor beast that A sharp sounded like a C and that an F sounded like an E flat. I got out of the mud, packed up my fiddle, and gave the horse an apologetic nod. The life of an artist, after all,  can be tough and lonely.

Charley & the Cynics

On Sunday, I helped my friend Bob shoot a movie scene. The scene took place in a bar. The band playing at this “bar”, is the real life band, Charley & the Cynics. During the downtime, I was able to shoot my own footage on the T2i and make this video. Overall, it was a great day of chill’n and movie make’n.

Cathy wasn’t too happy about the uprising, but she had to admit the boys were cuter when they had a cause. There was a spark in their eye that she was never able to ignite on her own.

From the Green Garbage Project

The thing is, the technology is already here and we know it’s better for the planet. Why can’t we move beyond the knowledge stage and get this implemented?

This led me to think about dish soap, of all things. Dish soap has long been a pet peeve of mine, and it’s a tiny example that encapsulates my entire frustration. Here’s the scenario: You go to the grocery store because you’re out of dish soap. You want a soap that costs a reasonable price, that smells good, and that cleans well. Why is it, that when a majority of people get to the dish soap aisle, they buy a brand-name soap when the green variety costs the same amount, cleans just as well and smells nice, too?

There is no reason not to make this switch – not cost, not effectiveness, not smell, not hand-softness, nothing. So why aren’t all the other brands out of business by now? Of course, it boils down to product loyalty and advertising budget, but that’s just plain stupid. It shouldn’t take an act of government to get chemicals out of our dish soap when we know they are bad for ourselves and the planet. We as consumers should be making this happen. The same argument can be made for solar panels and green roofs and geothermal water heaters and porous asphalt and a host of other proven and comparable green changes.

I fully agree.

One time while I was walking around the park an old man came up to me and asked if I liked grilled tuna sandwiches. I replied that I do indeed love grilled tuna sandwiches, but that I recently became a vegetarian. He smirked a little and pulled out a banana from his fanny pack. He handed it to me and told me to keep up the good work. Then he spread his wings and flew to the nearest tree branch.

“I’ll always love you.” he said as I put my shoes back on. That’s about the time I realized I was a song writer.
